Mt Bonnell Residence
Mt Bonnell Residence
Architect: Andersson-Wise Architects
Completion: March 2009
Location: Mt. Bonnell, Austin, Tx
This contemporary home complements its dramatic setting. Perched on the cliff above Lake Austin this home extends out from the cliff’s edge and rests on steel Y frames in the slope below. Materials, mechanics and design are rooted in commercial applications and therefore offer a distinct structure and features. The building envelope will be constructed using structural insulated panels, for both walls and roof. Extensive views are maximized by storefront glazing and a deck along the entire length of the lake side. The commercial glass will cover over 60 linear feet to surround the living room. The siding is
part stucco and part Masanduba siding mounted on a rain screen. Beach and lap pools complete the design, and also are supported by the same steel structure. The lap pool will have an acrylic end that cantilevers out past the steel structure and will be approximately 30’ above ground. The project also includes a garage apartment.
